Vote for Coach Bailes by Neil Fisher
"Vote For Coach Bailes" was published on both the website www.Chattanoogan.com and in the Times Free Press this week. Neil was a beginning player on the basketball team I coached this year at OLPH. I watched him improve greatly on a team with almost all players without experience. We started by losing but finished third in the league.
Neil is also a friend of my son's. Last Saturday, Neil showed me a letter he'd composed while on a trip out of town, and I almost came to tears as I read it. I mean it was very special.
You see, Neil is one of those kids who would benefit from having better schools in Hamilton County. He is the son of a single mom who would benefit from economic development in Brainerd and East Ridge with jobs that support them. And he is a young man who would benefit from having mature male leadership in county government. Here is the letter that nobody else could write but Neil.
[Special Note to Neil: You were just as inspiring to me, as was the whole team. Continue to dare to be the best. Never stop. And always learn from failure by improving yourself. That's the key to winning!
Vote for Coach Bailes
I am 13-years-old so I can’t vote yet. I encourage everyone in District 8 who is old enough, to vote for John Bailes for their county commissioner.
Mr. Bailes was my basketball coach this year. He helped us through tough games. He was fair to everyone on the team and let everyone play. He never lost his temper and was a good role model.
John Bailes is a good father to his son. He spends a lot of time with his son, who is a friend of mine. Mr. Bailes knows a lot about basketball, computers, and politics and he teaches us about them.
Mr. Bailes also knows how much our schools are suffering. He will help them get what they need like sports, computers, books, and good teachers.
Almost everyone where I live in Brainerd is for John Bailes because he cares about our neighborhoods. In Brainerd, we are losing places to play, like at the levee. We don’t even have a place to get ice cream anymore because of check cashing stores.
I hope everyone in Brainerd, East Brainerd, and East Ridge will vote for a great man, John Bailes, on Aug. 3.
