John's Cookin'~Chattanooga Times Endorses Bailes
John and Dinah love to cook together for their family and friends.
Today's Chattanoonga Times endorsed John Bailes for District 8 Commissioner to be elected on August 3. Here's the endorsement:
The Hamilton County Commission in recent years has been nowhere near the leader it should have been in support of education, collaborative local partnerships and infrastructure improvements countywide. County schools, vital services and a host of non profit agencies that provide services crucial to the county’s well-being suffered substantial underfunding from an unprecedented six-year drought in inflation-adjusted funding — a drought hardly rectified by last year’s modest tax increase. Perhaps worse has been the studied disinterest in looking at ways to improve the delivery or efficiency of needed government services.
In District 8, challenger John Bailes should be elected over veteran Curtis Adams.
Mr. Bailes promises to be an infinitely more energetic, capable, constructive and approachable official than the incumbent, Curtis Adams. Mr. Adams has refused support in recent years for public schools and pandered on a dubious rationale for his change in direction. Mr. Bailes, by contrast, offers a far more consensus-building approach to public education and has demonstrated unusual commitment to building a communitywide coalition for progress. He also offers a far broader agenda for county government overall.
He has specific ideas for supporting families, renewing local business opportunities, aiding economic development efforts and promoting investment and a sense of community in the neighborhoods in his district.
We strongly urge his election.
